- How did you get involved?
I got involved when my professor Mr. Renehan offered me this amazing opportunity and I really appreciate that. It was free and I heard the opportunity is open to all Moraine Valley students.
- What did you learn from the experience?
I learned from that experience how to conduct constructive dialogue and deal with any conversation in different culture. This kind of programs is extremely helpful especially these days since we live in diversity environment, and it would be a better chance for people to engage together in this kind of platform. Also, I learned how to become a good listener and understand from other perspective. I learned how not to be triggered by people or be too emotional.
- What did you like most?
What I liked the most is that Soliya is different than the social media, you talk to random people and some people might respond to others improperly. Also, in social media there is unsafe environment since there is no rules controlling the conversation among people. Unlike, Soliya gives you an opportunity to express your ideas and perspectives. Also, I feel free when I talk to my group without worrying about people judging me. Each participant knows that he or she has a right to present his or her ideas freely and ask questions.
- What was the most difficult aspect of the program?
I would say the challenge was listening to your inner voice, which means when you try to understand any typical form your prospective. During the session, the facilitator asked us to bring piece of paper and pen to draw the animal that he described for us, so we drew based on what we heard. We all though the animal was elephant, but it was not. I recognized that listening to your inner voice is not always right. You have to ask for more information. To get out of my comfort zone was another challenge for me.
- Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I highly recommend for others to enjoy Soliya program, it will help them to expand their knowledge in many aspects of topics. Even though, the touchy topics by sharing our ideas will lead to better understanding by asking good questions to why he or she thinks like that.
